Mt.Fuji 5th station and Hakone tour

Overview

Enjoy a full-day tour visiting the 5th Station of Mount Fuji, located 2,300 meters above sea level. Depending on the weather, you can take in magnificent views of this sacred mountain and its surroundings. After this wonderful experience, visit Hakone—located in the Kanto region, Kanagawa Prefecture, less than 100 km from Tokyo. Hakone is one of the most beautiful destinations within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Enjoy a visit to the volcanic area of Owakudani, a ride on the ropeway, and a scenic boat cruise on Lake Ashinoko, as well as a visit to the beautiful Hakone Shrine in the town of Moto-Hakone.

Our first stop is the 5th Station of Mount Fuji, situated 2,300 meters above sea level and accessible via the scenic Subaru Line. Depending on the weather, you can admire the surrounding landscape and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the sacred mountain’s summit. Here, you can visit the Mount Fuji shrine and browse the local shops for souvenirs.

Owakudani is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Hakone region. It is a famous active volcanic zone where you can see sulfurous steam vents and enjoy stunning views of Mount Fuji. Honestly, the place feels almost otherworldly. Please note that the sulfur fumes are strong, so visiting is not recommended for individuals with respiratory issues.

In Owakudani—much like in other volcanic areas such as Beppu—it is traditional to eat a «black egg», according to Japanese belief, eating one extends your life by seven years.

After visiting the volcanic area of Owakudani, we will take the ropeway to Togendai Port. Along the way, you can enjoy some of the area’s most beautiful scenery, including views overlooking Lake Ashinoko. The Hakone Ropeway connects the Sounzan area with the Togendai area—located on the shores of Lake Ashi—in approximately 30 minutes, passing over the volcanic Owakudani zone.

Next, upon arriving at the Togendai port, we will board a sightseeing boat for a cruise across beautiful Lake Ashi. These vessels, nicknamed «pirate ships» due to their appearance, connect the northern shore at Togendai with the southeastern areas of Moto-Hakone or Hakone-machi in a journey lasting about 30 to 40 minutes.

This small port town is a popular tourist destination featuring numerous restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores where you can enjoy a delicious lunch. Moto-Hakone is situated near the southeastern shore of Lake Ashi. It is home to the beautiful Hakone Shrine, famous for the lovely red torii gate standing at the water’s edge.

The main attraction in this area is the Hakone Shrine, situated at the foot of Mount Hakone on the shores of Lake Ashi.
Its large red torii gates are a highlight: one stands in the lake itself, while the other two are located on the main street of Moto-Hakone.
From the shrine, you can take a walk along the shore of Lake Ashinoko. Although this lake is not part of the «Five Lakes» of the Mount Fuji region, it is also very famous.
